My first YA novel, Saving Saxon, was written under my own name. This book got shortlisted for the Hot Key Young Writers Prize and The Northern Writers Awards, it was also longlisted for the Times/ Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition. But since writing more extensively for adults I thought it was time to create Em. Em can be short for lots of things but essentially it is ‘M’ and Kittow is my maternal grandfather’s family name, and a link to my Cornish roots.
Finding literary journals that specialise in kids writing is a job in itself. I’m glad Em is starting to build a little portfolio for herself.
